Referential compositing. This is Tarona’s self-titled method of working, through which research, intuition, collecting, reading, and collaging come together to form new filmic works. The method begins from an understanding that no work is made in isolation: images, histories, texts, movements, sounds, ideas, and references are always connected, and each new work emerges from these existing networks. Within this process, Tarona approaches the use of film in two ways: both as a Trojan horse and as an archive. The medium is a vehicle for carrying information; sometimes directly, sometimes subtly, allowing references and materials to enter the work before unfolding, expanding, or revealing themselves over time. They always relate to the theme and specific topic the film is about. Rather than functioning as fixed points of reference, these materials create pathways into other histories, sources, and ideas by making new connections.
Research is therefore not simply a preparatory stage but becomes embedded within the structure of the work itself. Fragments gathered through ongoing processes of collecting, reading, and looking are brought together intuitively, creating connections between seemingly unrelated materials. The resulting film holds these connections in suspension, allowing them to remain open-ended and available for further discovery. Referential Compositing is ultimately a way of thinking and feeling through making: a practice of assembling, layering, and connecting. Each film becomes both a work in itself ánd a point of departure; a place from which further references can be found, followed, and unfolded for those who wish to seek further.
